As all my ‘followers’ should know, I am a gay man. I have known a lot of Drag Queens in my life in the starting in the early 2000’s. Not so much now, as I don’t get out much. The point is, I just can’t understand the controversy about the sudden hatred of Drag Queens in the United States.
First, let me say that there is a difference between Drag Queens and those who are considered “trans” or “transexual” or “transgender” . My Gods, I HATE labels! So, let’s see where I go with this.
Drag Queens have been around in my lifetime since the early 2000’s with no problems what so ever. They have performed at private establishments, public establishments and I’m an avid watcher of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” since it’s beginning in 2009 (Wikipedia – RuPaul’s Drag Race)
If you have been to Las Vegas to enjoy a ‘entertainer’ (i.e. Cher, Celine Dion, etc.) and noticed the seats were cheap? There was a reason for that. You were actually entertained by a ‘female impersonator’. Most likely you didn’t read the fine print on the flyer or whatever they produced to get you there. Wait..how do I know this? Personal experience. I went to Las Vegas on a vacation in 2017, got tickets to see Celine Dion (yes I was duped) provided by the hotel I stayed at in a package deal. Later, I was sad but actually impressed at whoever performed that night. Sad, I didn’t see the real Celine Dion, but impressed at the persons performance. If you have been to Las Vegas and seen a show of a ‘real’ performer, you have to ask yourself, was it so and so?
If you know nothing of Drag Queens, please at least TRY to watch RuPaul’s Drag Race on the various channels it’s steaming. Start from the first season if you can. Like any reality show, after a couple of seasons, it honestly gets dull and boring. I honestly can’t say I have watched the last seasons unless I read about some controversy in the show.
What’s the point about all this?
I think it started for a variety of reasons. There was a ‘trans influencer’ for Bud Light, if I understand the limited information I read about the incident (‘cus it’s just stupid to me). Then suddenly, I read article after article of how “Drag shows” were cancelled. Then it it home. A local entertainment establishment cancelled a Drag Show. I was actually really excited to see it but now it’s in some political discussion for resolution to my knowledge. This really got my blood boiling. All of a sudden your all this crap around the United States where businesses are closing, events cancelled (especially Pride in June) because of the fear these people have put into community.
Seriously?
To be honest, everything transpiring in the United States sickens me. We are far away from where we were 20 years ago. We weren’t perfect but progressing forward. Now, it feels like we traveled back in before the 2000’s, perhaps before that. History does tend to repeat it itself.
Right now, I honestly feel ashamed to be an American.
