Up until the late 1930’s, most alcoholics were sent to asylums for alcoholism. Many of these asylums considered them hopeless individuals who would never recover. It wasn’t until two men, Bob Wilson and Dr. Bob Silkworth in Akron, Ohio, met in 1939 to develop a program of living for recovering alcoholics. Alcoholics Anonymous is now recognized around the World as the foundation for many 12 Step programs offering addicts the hope of recovery from their disease of addiction.
