Kitty Time is Flying – Week Three Update

It’s been three weeks since the kittens were born. I’m beginning to realize how a real parent or grandparent feels after the birth of kids! So much has happened in a short period of time.

Updated photo album with captions followed by a long blog entry I’m sure! Clicking picture will display caption at bottom. Otherwise a full explanation of events is further down the page. Enjoy!

Oh my gosh where do I begin? Time is certainly flying and quickly. Something is always happening every day with either the parents (BigBoy and LittleOne) or the kids. I don’t like posting daily because I’m sure that there are those that aren’t interesting in my stories about my cats. Well shame on you but in respect for those readers, I will have to post long updates for the Kitty Log instead.

LittleOne or Mama (as I’m calling her now) has six toes on each front paw. On Saturday, March 16th, I was talking to the kittens (yes, I talk to my cats!) when I picked one up and found it had six (almost looks like more) toes too! I check the other kittens because I wasn’t sure if it was just the females inheriting this gene or all the kids. All the kids have six toes on each front paw. Just more adorableness!

BigBoy, the Father, has been respectful of his children. Every once and a while he will sniff the bed where Mom and the kids sleep. Nothing more. However, his other shenanigans are a whole other story. Honestly, I feel that he feels jealous because he is not the center of attention anymore. I equally share time with everyone. Yet, BigBoy has to really show off his displeasure sometimes. A series of events took place so I attempted to pick him and up to put him in time out as I had a mess to clean up. He wasn’t having any of it…period. I took three steps forward, he started to struggle and next thing he rakes my arm with his claws! It sounds awful, the cut looks nasty but we’re all good.

On Sunday, March 24, Mom was really acting up asking for more attention than usual. The last time this happened was when the kids were born. Knew something was up so I checked on them. All of the kiddos had opened their eyes! Two picture were taken because at first it was just three of them but I checked on them later and the forth had opened her eyes.

Today is the 27th of March (Wednesday) and I knew this day was coming very quickly. But I was surprised who the culprit turned out to be. For a couple of days, one of the boys (orange ones) began to put his paws over the bed. He wasn’t able to drag is body over yet. This evening, I was walking back to my bedroom, Mom between my legs anytime I’m walking anywhere these days, when I bumped into something. (Sidenote: I work overnights. All my lights in my house are turned off except my TV. I run around my house like a blind man literally – my choice. Anywho->) I thought it was something the cats had knocked down, but it moved….? Oh no…I have an escape artist! Honestly I didn’t expect one of the females to escape. But she did (now three times) with Mom in close proximity! The question remains – when are the rest going to join their sister??? **head to desk** I don’t think Grandpa is ready for this but it’s going happen anyway!

I swear this is the last of it…..

I live in a small city but all our vets are not accepting new patients. I also don’t drive. My landlords wife has been kind enough to drive me on certain occasions. But I don’t want to ask her to drive me 50 miles somewhere because that is the only vet accepting new patients – yes I’m stubborn. So no one has seen a vet, as of yet.

Yet, there is good news. The other day I was speaking to a co-worker. She is a cat lady herself. She told me of a pop up clinic every Sunday at the Tractor Supply Store right across from where we work. Apparently they can do everything I need right now but for more larger procedures can refer me to someone. So this Sunday, I’ll be taking Mom and kids for checkups. Dad is just gonna have to wait.

It’s been a stressful month for me. But I’m managing the best I can. Every day when I wake up or come home from work I look forward to events of my new family. But there are other times I have to put the headphones on a tune ’em out. Half the time I rip my headphones off ‘cus I hear something and have to check to see the who and what. But in the end – I wouldn’t change a day in the world for these experiences!

Until next time readers…….
