Every morning we have a small “team meeting” before hitting the floor at work. The Team Lead wished everyone a happy birthday this month. However, senior management has requested Walmart associates not get a birthday cake out of respect for those religious affiliations which don’t celebrate birthdays. Wait…what? Oh..please!
Unknown to me, Jehovah’s Witnesses’ apparently do not celebrate most holidays or events that honour people who aren’t Jesus. That includes birthdays, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day and Halloween. One source says early Christians would die before celebrating a “pagan traditions”, another saying “they displease God”. While I respect all religions, no matter how outlandish their beliefs may be, this goes a little too far.
Yet the employer put gifts out for Mother’s and Father’s Day. My employer is closed on Christmas. But one person has to complain they were “offended” by birthday celebrations, so we can’t have our cake and eat it too? Well I’m offended by Christmas, Easter, Halloween and all holidays based on pagan traditions, should I complain about those having those banned too? Nope…so be it, enjoy yourself.
End of rave…everyone have a nice evening as I struggle with this new information….
Yeah, JWs are a little tricky that way. Just hope the powers that be don’t hire a Mormon, a JW, and an Amish person. Their beliefs will mean you can’t do anything fun ever again!
Hey, wait a minute…
